Senior Adult Council
The original goal of the Senior Adult Council was to identify the senior
adults in the congregation and to determine how involved they were in
church activities. The council currently serves as a catalyst for ministry
to older members of the church. The council is committed to helping older
adults connect their lives with their faith. This includes providing support
and guidance to help them maintain the quality of their lives and share
their experiences.
The council meets on the second Wednesday of each month to discuss concerns,
and evaluate and make plans. Monthly luncheon meetings are held on the
third Thursday. These luncheons are for members and their friends over
age 50. The purpose is socialization and education. Guest speakers and
presenters have covered such subjects as health, nutrition, diabetes,
wills, estate planning, housing alternatives for older people, and catastrophic
insurance plans.
The council has sponsored such activities as a Hobby Fair at the church,
where members displayed hobbies such as crochet, knitting, photography
and fabric painting. We also sponsored a two-hour bus trip in Kansas City
and Blue Springs for viewing the Christmas Lights displays. The council
observed the 100th birthday of member Mrs. Fannie Tompkins by visiting
her and presenting her with a plaque and flowers. Council arranged for
AARP's TAX_AIDE service to give one day of service at Bethel to help seniors
prepare their income tax returns.
We work to ensure that the interests of senior adults are not neglected.
We would like for any concerns of members be brought to our attention.
In our ongoing survey, we have found that older adults participate in
most functions of the church, taking active roles in the trustee board,
steward board, Sunday School, usher boards, choirs, outreach, missionaries,
clubs, and bible study.
